Eaquals membership - opportunities

  1. As a well-established language centre, what has motivated you to apply for Eaquals membership?

- the main reason was to obtain a confirmation that what we offer to our students meets the requirements of an international institution that is responsible for establishing and checking quality standards of language teaching and learning

- to improve the general perception of our Language Centre at university, to show that, in spite of the fact that our teachers usually are not involved in obtaining PhD degrees (they are not obliged to follow the academic path), they are still deeply engaged in the process of constant self-development.

  1. How has preparing for & the introduction of the Eaquals Quality Assurance system influenced the activities / processes at your language centre? Could you give an example of an area in the Eaquals QA scheme that you found most relevant for your activity?

- we had to look at all our processes with a critical eye, which was difficult but in the end rewarding,

- we had to redefine the teaching/learning process shifting the attention to the student even more than we had done in the past,

- we were able to consolidate the staff more by organising various internal training activities and workshops not only within the specific language sections but also across different languages

- we have always been focused on the use of new technologies in the teaching process, many teachers offer blended courses on Moodle, and we managed to encourage even more teachers to start using new technologies in their teaching

  1. Are there any benefits of belonging to Eaquals? If yes, what are the main benefits at the institutional / LC team level? Could you please give a couple of examples (from your point of view, as coordinator, from the teachers' and or the students' point of view)?

- the accreditation is a confirmation of the high quality of  language courses offered by our Centre, which is  important for both  the Language Centre (because it attests to the high standards of the courses offered by it and should attract students) and for the University – it’s an international accreditation which is very important in view of the whole process of internationalisation of university education

- the accreditation boosted the morale of the teachers who worked hard to adjust their methods and approaches to the very demanding Eaquals standards

- Eaquals membership  offers an opportunity to take an active part in the discussion on the shape of language education in Europe and an opportunity to learn from the best and also to share our knowledge with other

- The Polish government has adopted the university reform project which was implemented in October 2018. It highlights the importance of the level of internationalisation of Polish universities. Our Language Centre has already done it owing to the Eaquals accreditation.
